Pitchside Report is honored to announce that USWNT member and soon to be Olympian Becky Sauerbrunn is joining our elite team of player bloggers! The 2007 ACC Defensive Player of the Year has become known as the “iron woman” in the world of women’s soccer. She is the only player to have played every single minute of every game during the two WPS seasons. The highly disciplined and skilful Sauerbrunn captained the USA at U-19 level and has shown the ability and versatility to play in the center or outside back line. Becky made her debut in Pia Sundhage’s first match in 2008, but was out of the national team picture until last fall when she was a late replacement in a training camp due to an injury to another player. She took full advantage of the opportunity, deservedly earning a spot on the Women’s World Cup qualifying roster, the World Cup Team and now the 2012 Olympic squad.
We are excited to share Becky’s thoughts and experiences as she prepares to head to the London Olympics! Please welcome her the Pitchside Report Blogging team!
