As reported by as.com of Spain, Verónica Boquete, the 2011 Michelle Akers Player of Year, will be returning to the Philadelphia Independence for 2012 WPS Season.
Boquete confirms returning to the Independence to as.com. She also confirms that the Western New York Flash, 2011 WPS Champions, were seeking to make her a part of their already star-studded roster. “I will stay in Philadelphia, although Western New York Flash have made me an almost irresistible offer, of almost double. In Philadelphia, they have made an effort and have bettered my salary, although not a large increase, but my decision is dominated by the sport not economics. I value the experience of this year and the confidence that I have in not only myself, not just my trainer, Paul Riley, but in the entire team, as well as, the idea of returning to an extremely competitive team. The team is pretty complete because a majority of the players will be continuing,” said Boquete.
For Boquete, 2012 will be her third season with the WPS. She scored five goals and earned four assists for the Independence in the 11 games she played. She was also WPS Player of the Week a distinguished three times. Her first season was played with the Chicago Red Stars in 2010.
